We are Alessandra and Edson,
married since 2001. We haven´t got yet any human kids thus we
are quite a small family.
We live in Cotia, which is a small city in the suburbs of São
Paulo, the largest city of Brazil, located in the southeast part of
the country. We enjoy living here as it has a good space for the dogs
and the climate is mild with no extremes both in summer and winter.
Along with the hairies we share our house with 2 Cockatiels, 5 Society
Finches and 2 Gouldian Finches.
Amarelo, our cockatiel
Edson grew up with dogs as his family loves pets. When I first met
him, they had 2 German Shepherds, 2 Brazilian Terriers, a Miniature
Poodle and 2 mixed breed dogs. Not to say the 3 cats, the parrot and
a few other birds. Some are deceased now but new ones have arrived
there and keep living with his parents.
I too had dogs my whole life. I first had Mila, my first English Cocker
Spaniel and sometime after she died, at the age of 15, my parents
brought home another English Cocker, Fly, and a Miniature Schnauzer,
Rebecca. They stayed with my parents when I got married along with
Cookie, my chocolate sable ferret, very best friend of my mom, who
did not let me bring her.
Sometime before getting married we started to look for a breed that
would fit our lifestyle and that would have some characteristics we
appreciate. The most important one was a breed that would be super
friendly and that would share our space happily with our friends and
family and that would likely live well with other dogs as we did not
intend to have only one and we were considering breeding some day.
We did a lot of research on several breeds but each would have something
that we did not really want. Whether because the average life expectation
was too short, or not so outgoing, or too popular. There was always
a “but”...
One day, we were watching Animal Planet. Crufts to be more specific.
And suddenly there is this brown shaggy dog who greets his handler
after winning the group so enthusistically. Oh I loved that happy
attitude and I felt for that dog. Some more research and the characteristics
were the closest ever to our ideal of dog.
We found out that gorgeous Potterdale Prophet had been the guilty
one for making us fall in love for the breed. The next guilty guy
was Nicolas, Brenriga´s Frankly my Dear. I had been in contacted
with Elba B. Magnasco, a breeder in Argentina and an opportunity came
with a trip I had to do for work. Nick was the first beardie I met
“live”, and I definitely knew beardies had touched my
heart forever. I left that house back to Brazil with a puppy bought
and a debit for life with Elba for all her support and menthoring.
Paco came in March 2003 and I spent the next months doing a lot of
research on different lines, specially from Europe. It was when I
found the Firstprizebears beardies in Belgium. I loved their dogs
and there was this bitch I felt for, Firstprizebears Z´Tampa.
The wonderful news was that she was expecting a litter and that was
how Calú came to this world and ended up in our hands. Seeing
Tampa live was also a delight - she is a superb mover. Calú
arrived in December, 2003.

Paco and Cookie
We were so happy to have
Calú we decided a Firstprizebears dog would be a good addition
and would make together with Calú and Paco, the basis of our
foundation and line.
So we new that Firstprizebears Aspen had been mated to UK Gillaber
Drummond and we crossed fingers that there would be a nice choice
of male dogs. Aspen definetely wanted to please us and gave birth
to nothing but 7 males. We couldn´t ask for more. But it happened
to be even more perfect... Conny recommended us the brown boy that
Edson had pointed in the litter at one day old saying: “I love
that one with the brown spot on the head”. Somehow he knew Tucker
was meant to be ours and he arrived in March 2005.
We thank everyday for having these the three hairies with us. Each
with its particularities, each with a special thing that fulfills
our heart with so much love. We try to give them back at least a good
portion of this love. But even though we love them to pieces, they
never get tired of teaching us the real meaning of unconditional love.
